Whoopi Goldberg has been temporarily suspended from “The View” after receiving backlash for comments she made about the Holocaust on air.
During Monday’s episode of the ABC daytime talk show, the EGOT winner, 66, received pushback from her co-hosts — and later from users on Twitter — after claiming the Holocaust, which involved the murder of 6 million Jews and other victims, was not “about race.”
ABC News president Kim Godwin said that Goldberg would be suspended from “The View” for two weeks effective immediately for “her wrong and hurtful comments,” in a statement shared with USA TODAY late Tuesday.
“While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” Godwin added. “The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”
